Indian law and documents, for families living abroad.

MORAFIS is the independent consultancy of Mohammed Rafiq, a practising Indian advocate. We help NRIs with matrimonial matters, foreign divorce decrees, passports, Apostille, powers of attorney and property paperwork, in English, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.

Find the help you need

Fourteen service areas, grouped by the kind of matter. Each page lists what we do and where the authorities take over.

A foreign divorce decree is not automatically valid in India.

Whether a decree granted abroad is conclusive in India depends on Section 13 of the Code of Civil Procedure, the matrimonial law that governs the marriage, and how the foreign case was decided. This is a principal specialist area for MORAFIS, and every decree is reviewed individually.

The same applies to passports: a divorce decree and a passport record are separate matters, and the passport authority decides what it needs.
